Lessons & Teaching
I had great time in lessons with Harriet, they were both educative and amusing. Other teachers did good job too, but it was similar to an old and little bit annoying educational system in Czech Republic. It was interesting to expierence different techniques - from perfectionist Aileen (although she was very strict about the use of informal language, which was in some situations necessary, and the policy was nothing but nonsense), funny Gina, nice Marie and always polite Paul. But Harriet was a big deal and she was the reason I was looking forward to going to school every morning. In the end though, I recieved my results that say I made almost no progress balancing between B2 and C1 level (same as in the beginning).
Facilities
Not enough space in classrooms and corridors, worse WiFi connection.
Accommodation
Ms Anne Devaney 's service was provided excellently with absolutely no lectures.
Food
Food was one of the tastiest in my life.
Social & Activities
Superiority of sports activities to the detriment of cultural oriented ones. The only activity I attended was Manchester Pub Tour with amazing Harriet. Trips (Smile agency) seemed a bit laidback and recklessly provided. E.g. the trip to York... just one hour of commented examination and for the rest of the time the guides were eating and drinking beer. That was unappropriate considering the prize of the trip (30 pounds)!
Staff
More critical opinion is pointed to the other staff, especially John. He (and maybe even others) absolutely ignored my request to try the highest possible RED level. Me and Mr. Jungmann (intermediator of my travel) had to call the director's wife seven times and Mr. John promised me twice he would try to speak with teachers. After I came to him another day he opined there are lots of "B2 elements in my language". But if I have that elements what about the others in the Green group (some of them e.g. couldn't understand every second sentence of the teacher or their pronounciation was absolutly terrible in every way). Then happened I was often bored. Also your style of dividing people into groups had very bad impact because in every class there was 80% of Swiss students. So they usually spoke Geman in any possible occasion and I felt pushed aside a bit. In conclusion, some of my expectations were surpassed and some of them not.
Safety
Negative experience with one begger, one dealer of cocain and the shooting attack that occured nearby.
Overall Experience
IH Manchester is not a perfect school, but for language improvement good enough. For me it's not clear if I would recommend this school, it's 50/50.
